Vintage Modern Kalamazoo Wedding: Matt + Audrey

What an incredible day… an incredible couple.  I laughed so much this wedding day–that is who Matt and Audrey are!  They are fun, light-hearted, and sweet with each other.  The wedding had a fabulous vintage-chic feel to it, and the small backyard ceremony made the exchanging of vows so cozy, thoughtful, and intimate.   While I always throw myself into photography as a personal gift from me to the couple,  it is particularly special when I have known the couple or family ahead of time.  In this case I met Audrey through her sister, her only bridesmaid,  Jennifer Buehrer.  You may have seen Jennifer around here occasionally,  being a close friend of mine as well as a constant inspiration and mentor in photography.

Audrey started her day at Urban Modern Hair, where she and her sister, Jennifer got all dolled up in the coolest, most modern way possible.

To me, makeup and hair are such art forms!  Getting to watch “wedding day hair” and “wedding makeup” come to life so often makes me realize that it really is an art of sculpting and painting.  I love to watch it happen… and I love the color pallets!

Audrey prepared and got married at Matt’s grandparents’ lake home.  I loved that cozy, at-home feeling of their house that represented a family supporting this couple and this marriage.

Audrey’s bouquet was beautiful!  The combination of champagne and vintage pink tones is classy and breathtaking.

Matt’s eyes were fixed on his lovely bride.  As light-hearted as they are,  his love and commitment to her clearly runs deep.

Emma, Audrey’s niece, was the perfect flower girl, cuddling into her Aunt Jennifer’s 8-months pregnant belly and watching the ceremony.

I really appreciated Audrey’s knowledge that great photography. takes. time.  It can be a little nervewracking to be expected to produce amazing images in a twenty minute timespan on one location.    At Matt and Audrey’s wedding was not the case–there was a two and a half hour chunk between the ceremony and reception where we hopped around Kalamazoo finding the best and most fabulous spots to fit their vintage-chic lovin’ photo tastes.  Gorgeous couple + cool city+ a minivan to cart us around wherever we please+tons of time =Photographer heaven!

The reception was held at The Eesley Place, a historic renovated mill in Plainwell, MI.  Rustic, vintage, and chic were understatements.  I absolutely wanted to move in.

I just have to pause to make a special shout-out to Matt’s grandparents.  Each of their contagious personalities matched the other’s so well.  These two are so sweetly in love– it made me tear up more than once that night.  They danced when no one else was dancing, just because a song they love was played.  The way they looked at each other would make you think that they were the newlyweds.  A lifetime of love is a beautiful thing, and looks good on just about anyone.  Makes me excited for the gray hair one day 🙂

Another show-stealer and heart-winner was Miss Emma on the dance floor.  Dancing definitely spans the age groups!

In the midst of the event, Joel manned a photo-booth downstairs.  Check out the video below if you don’t believe me when I tell you that this group had PERSONALITY!

The night was finished off with some good cigar-smoking man-time out on the porch.  To say that Matt and Audrey are surrounded by people that love them is an understatement.  The entire event really showed just how special they are to those around them.

Thank you Matt and Audrey for letting us be a part of your day!  It was truly an honor.
